Come ogni anno, arriva il momento dei Game of the Year Awards! Quest’anno, lo show dei Game Awards avrà luogo il 7 dicembre, con Geoff Keighley come presentatore. Per essere nominati, i giochi devono essere usciti in una data compresa fra il 24 novembre 2016 e il 17 novembre 2017. La giuria che nomina i giochi è composta da 51 siti di giornalismo videoludico, che a loro volta votano per i vincitori dei Game of the Year – per essere più precisi, il 90% del voto è determinato dalle riviste, il rimanente 10% dal pubblico.
Non sono mancate le polemiche, visto che la data d’uscita è un requisito binario, che include anche i giochi Early Access – e infatti è stato candidato Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, anche se Bernard Greene stesso ha detto che non ritiene che il gioco sia meritevole di vincere un Game of the Year quando è in competizione con titoli come Horizon: Zero Dawn o il nuovo Zelda.
