As reported by Windows Central, the controller is designed to improve accessibility for people who cannot play comfortably with a modern controller. The images show a flat controller with an Xbox One D-pad and two rounded surfaces for the A and B buttons, although these functions are likely to be programmable. All other functions of an Xbox One controller are represented by the slots on the top of the controller and a USB port allows expansion or programming of controller functions.

Microsoft is often praised by accessibility groups for various improvements and additions to the Xbox One interface to make games easier to play. Remapping of the PlayStation 4 pad keys has been added for similar reasons.
