Stormdivers is the new Housemarque IPFinnish software house known mainly for Dead Nation and Nex Machina. On this first day of Gamescom we managed to chat with Sami "HAXX" Hakala e Henry Markus, Game Designer of the new project. As the title Stormdivers is a Battle Royale. In a market now saturated with this kind, my main question was: what differentiates you from others? Why should a user quit PUBG or Fortnite and start Stormdivers? Markus did not hold back and promptly gave me the main (and original) characteristics of their new title.
The map, at least for the first period, will host a minimum of 60 players up to a maximum of 80.
The "danger zone" it will not shrink concentrically and "predictably" but will be subject to continuous random variations along its entire perimeter.
It will be possible to find equipment during the game. In addition to the usual weapons, they will be available objects that will allow you to activate certain skills (boots that give the possibility to jump higher, for example)
The map will be the theater of random events that the player can use in his favor or not. You might come across tornadoes that, even if they give you damage, would throw you into the air giving you a possible advantage against enemies on the ground
The game will reward the action and avoid the camping. The map will not be huge and the intention is not to make a game last longer than 40.
Last, but not least, the classes will be present. Each with its own powers and particularities, you can choose the one that best reflects your style of play. At the moment, there are three classes: Juggernaut, Marauder and Scavenger. The Juggernaut will be equipped with great defense, the Marauder can cure himself and the Scavenger will ensure agility and high damage. The real novelty, however, will be the introduction of the classes in the Team Match: the choice of the class will become fundamental for the creation of a balanced team ready to win. Just like in a role-playing game.
On the occasion of the opening of the Gamescom, the first official Stormdivers trailer. These are just the first images of an ambitious and developing project. What do you think? Can it bring freshness to the Battle Royale genre?
Stay tuned to stay up to date on this Gamescom 2018!
