Variety announced that Universal Pictures is working on a remake of "Death runs on the river“, The 1955 classic noir with Robert Mitchum in one of his most memorable roles. Both films are based on Davis Grubb's novel "The Night of the Hunter", which tells the story of John and Pearl, orphans whose mother remarries Reverend Harry Powell, a disturbing man with the words "Love" and “Hate” tattooed on the hands. But it soon becomes clear that the reverend has very obscure ulterior motives.

The screenplay is entrusted to Matt Orton (Operation Finale), and very little is known about it, except that it will be a contemporary transposition and not a period piece.
