Xbox Series X (as well as Series S) has a small button on the front of the console, located near the USB port. Although this is designed to match the specific controller and dedicated accessories to the machine, it actually hides a second function.
According to what was stated da Major Nelson, to the century Larry Hryb, the button is also equipped with an infrared receiver, useful for using some peripherals such as remotes from previous Xbox consoles.
Xbox One Media Remotes will continue to work with Xbox Series X | S as part of our commitment that you can bring your existing accessories forward with you. The design team hid the IR receiver inside the bind button #PowerYourDreams pic.twitter.com/vNQ2FJsgRh

“Xbox One Media Remote will also continue to work on Xbox Series X | S as part of our commitment to backward compatibility of existing accessories. The design team hid an infrared receiver inside the pairing button ”.
The function, as mentioned, will allow users to use all the old accessories that support this technology: although it will hardly be used frequently, this will allow players to take advantage of the peripherals purchased for the consoles already in their possession on the Xbox Series X (and its "little sister"), without the need to acquire the new dedicated products. A small convenience that underlines Microsoft's commitment to support compatibility between the various Xbox generations.
