Fifteen years of Bioware and two of Ubisoft, creator of Dragon Age: Origin and Jade Empire. The curriculum of Mike Laidlaw is that of one of the most experienced developers in the gaming industry.

Also for this reason the news of the interruption of his working relationship with Ubisoft in February had surprised everyone. After only two years in Quebec, Laidlaw quit his studio Assassin's Creed Odyssey, without giving indications on any future projects. The developer hasn't explained the reasons for the split, but Ubisoft definitely isn't the best place to work lately.

However, doubts about Laidlaw's future have dissolved. In fact, it was he himself who announced the foundation of a new software house, the Yellow Brick Games. New site, new Twitter profile, but above all new team, which brings together big players from the world of video games, names already well known in the world.

Frederic St-Laurent B. and Jeff Skalski collaborated together on the creation of Assassin's Creed Syndicate, while Thomas Giroux participated in huge projects such as The Crew and oversaw the development of many games based on the works of Tom Clancy.

Yellow Brick's stated goal is to change the approach developers have with their work, returning to the basics. As explained by Skalski:

“We have been working on huge projects for years, with thousands of colleagues and now we want to experiment with a different approach. A smaller but talented team, where the person comes before work, which can create worlds that everyone can enjoy. "

The environment of huge studios seems to appeal to developers less and less. In fact, Yellow Brick is just the latest in small software house founded by high-profile industry figures. In fact, in this 2020 they were born Dreamhaven e Frost Giant Studios, created by former Blizzard and CD Project employees respectively.
