The users had not taken very well the news of the absence of a free upgrade for PS4 copies of Horizon forbidden west and the general discontent seems to have clearly reached the ears of Sony, who opted for a sudden turnaround: Horizon Forbidden West on the PS4 version will grant a free upgrade to the PS5 version. The communication comes directly from Jim Ryan by rectification of original post related to pre-orders appeared a few days ago on the Playstation Blog:
“Thursday was supposed to be a celebration of Horizon Forbidden West and the fantastic Guerrilla team working to release it on February 18, 2022. In any case, it is abundantly clear that the offers presented at the launch of the pre-orders missed their target. Last year, we made a commitment to guarantee free upgrades for all cross-gen launch titles, including Horizon Forbidden West. While the profound impact of the pandemic has moved the game away from the originally planned launch window, we will keep our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on Playstation 4 will be able to upgrade to the Playstation 5 version for free".
Ryan also took the opportunity to clarify what the practice will be from here on out, revealing that this will not be a custom and upgrades for first party titles will always be available for a fee.
“I want to confirm today that from now on all cross-gen Playstation first party titles (which will be released on PS4 and PS5) - both physical and digital - will offer the option of a digital upgrade from PS4 to PS5 for $ 10. This will apply to the upcoming God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other PS4 and PS5 cross-gen exclusives released by Sony Interactive Entertainment. ”
The second chapter of Horizon will therefore actually be the latest exclusive for which Sony will offer the upgrade for free to the version for the next generation console. Starting from subsequent ones, the option will always be guaranteed, but only for a fee.
